Happy Christmas

It has been quite a year and one that none of us could have envisaged this time last year.

It is fair to say that the Covid-19 pandemic has changed all our lives forever.

One of the most impressive features of 2020 has been the incredible way that people have adjusted their lives in the face of a global pandemic.

A big part of this was how rapidly we all adapted to the ‘new normal’, a major part of which was the adoption of technology to enable us to continue with our business lives and to keep in touch with colleagues, family and friends.

In many ways, the world has leapt forward a decade in terms of the way we work during 2020.

I think what we have all come to appreciate far more this year is the importance of outdoor spaces and the natural landscape.

Since we established our practice four years ago we have seen big changes in how people want to design, create and manage the landscapes they live and work in. Covid-19 has accelerated this growing demand for inspirational landscapes and the outdoors.

The pandemic has quickly shown how vital it is that students have safe spaces outside during their busy academic day.

We are working with a growing number of schools, sixth form colleges and universities across the country to help them to create rich, vibrant and immersive spaces outside, which work whatever the weather.

The hospitality and leisure industry have been badly impacted this year but it is interesting to see some of the innovation that has already started to happen in those sectors.

We’re working with caravan parks, visitor attractions and restaurants to create new outdoor areas with natural planting, café gardens and terraced spaces for their customers to enjoy.

We have created canopied timber decked spaces with earth mounds planted with native wildflowers, timber seating and interesting paths.

These new socially distanced spaces are being used as settings for everything from giant tepees with fire pits inside to innovative pop-up shops and foodie outlets.

Not only are they beautiful, Instagrammable environments which people love and engage with, they’re safe spaces, and they’re helping to attract new customers.

With people reluctant to fly or travel overseas, we expect there will be a boom in people wanting to holiday in the UK in 2021. They want spacious holiday parks with private hot-tubs and great places to eat out with lovely views.

As a specialist landscape architecture practice, we are excited about the future and working with our clients to help them realise the full potential of their land and its surroundings – whether they own a holiday park, a glamping site, a rural estate or run a formal visitor attraction.

On behalf of all the team at Land Studio, I would like to wish you and your loved ones our very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
