Six things you need to know about Building with Nature

Building with Nature (BwN) is the UK’s first green infrastructure benchmark.

Based around 12 standards relating to Core, Wellbeing, Water and Wildlife, it can help residential and commercial developers to design and deliver high-quality green infrastructure.

Below, Rachael Fenton, one of our Associate Landscape Architects and a BwN Assessor, gives a quick-fire guide to what you need to know about the accreditation:

1.     BwN’s mission is to make high quality green infrastructure an integral part of future placemaking across the UK.

2.    The BwN Standards Framework has been developed to champion exempla designs of green infrastructure and demonstrate what good GI looks like.

3.    The accreditation Standards have been developed to respond to the climate emergency, improve health and well-being and promote sustainable water management.

4.   Adopting the BwN Standards will help developers and planners to deliver climate responsive designs with long-term benefits to people and wildlife.

5.    Adopting the BwN Standards can also reduce planning risk as BwN are working with Local Authorities to integrate the BwN Standards into Local Plans.

6.    Assessors across the UK can work alongside projects at a range of scales to ensure the best possible GI is incorporated and delivered within a scheme.
