Planning consent for new Welsh glamping site in AONB

There’s a narrow road in Llangollen in North Wales which has one of the most incredible views in the country, says Land Studio founder Simon Richards.

Simon stumbled across the tiny road, which sits under the cliffs which run along the hilltop on the north side of the Vale of Llangollen, while out on his bike one day.

The stunning Denbighshire setting is the site for a farm diversification glamping scheme.

We have been working on the scheme as part of a multi-disciplinary consultancy team, which includes Owen Devenport and Marches Ecology.

The site is set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to a Scheduled Ancient Monument and forms part of the Offas Dyke Path National Trail, so planning permission was always going to be challenging.

The scheme required a robust submission to receive support from pre-application all the way through to the planning application stage.

Our detailed Landscape Appraisal and Design Strategy work was important to show that the new development would have minimal impact on the surrounding landscape.

We’re delighted that the scheme with its Welsh made timber-clad yurts and curved decks which follow the contours of the land, has just won planning consent.

The glamping site at Tan Y Castell Farm will be an incredible place for visitors.
